In the spirit of classic American entrepreneurship, Jason and Frank established Illiknives with the goal of providing their home state of Illinois with the best cutlery available anywhere. Whether it's the best in production blades, the finest in hand-crafted customs, or the essential care and upkeep of your own fine blade, we want to meet your needs like no one else can.
Jason is a professional mechanic, trained and certified in the classic art of automotive/diesel repair. He receives a great deal of satisfaction from tackling the challenges of the 21st century automobile, and from working with his hands in general. This lifestyle also led him into the world of cutlery. Some of his favorites include the Gurkha Kukri and the classic American Bowie knife. His understanding grows from the kitchen, to the pocket, and everything between and beyond as he continues to follow his passion for blades further down the rabbit hole.
Frank is a clarinetist and private music teacher. He gained an early interest in the cutlery world from the Filipino martial artists, military, and law-enforcement officers in his family. This combination of creative and martial arts gives him a unique perspective on the design and use of blades. The diverse historical swords and knives of China, Japan, and the Philippines are some of his favorites. Frank wants to honestly de-vilify the blade; to help teach the open-minded that a quality blade is only as useful, or deadly, as the quality of person behind it.
